Dubai, Feb 12 Indian batswomen Jemimah Rodrigues and Smriti Mandhana on Tuesday jumped four places to be second and sixth in the ICC T20 rankings despite their team's 0-3 loss in New Zealand.

Rodrigues's 132 runs in the three-match series against New Zealand have lifted her to second position while Mandhana, who grabbed the top spot in ODIs last week, has gained four spots after finishing as the leading run-getter in the New Zealand series with an aggregate of 180. T

The stylish left-hander smashed two half-centuries including a fluent 86 in the last match in Hamilton that India lost by two runs.

Spinners Radha Yadav, up 18 places to 10th after taking four wickets in the series, and Deepti Sharma, up five places to 14th, are the India players to move up among bowlers.

For New Zealand, Sophie Devine has moved from 11th to eighth position among batters after scoring 153 runs in the series including a match-winning 72 in the last match, while captain Amy Satterthwaite’s 87 runs have lifted her from 23rd to 17th position. Among bowlers, Lea Tahuhu has moved up five slots to 11th position.

Windies' Deandra Dottin has grabbed the top spot among all-rounders.

Dottin has been the standout performer in a 2-1 series win in Pakistan. Dottin has moved up two places to third among batters after scoring 158 runs in the series while her three wickets have lifted her two slots to 29th among bowlers.

Pakistan captain Bismah Maroof has gained three slots to tie with compatriot Javeria Khan in 15th position among batters while Sana Mir, who is top ranked in the ODI format, has moved up six places to take 28th position among T20 bowlers after taking three wickets in the series.

In the team rankings, New Zealand have overtaken England to take second place. Australia continue to lead the table while the Windies and India are fourth and fifth respectively. PTI BS BS

The India pair of Jemimah Rodrigues and Smriti Mandhana have made impressive gains among batters in the ICC Women's T20I Player Rankings despite their side's 3-0 series loss to New Zealand, while Windies all-rounder Deandra Dottin has grabbed the top spot among all-rounders in the latest update carried out on Tuesday.

Rodrigues's 132 runs in the three-match series against New Zealand have lifted her four places to the second position while Smriti Mandhana, who grabbed the top spot in ODIs last week, has gained four spots to reach the sixth position after finishing as the leading run-getter in the series with an aggregate of 180. The pace pair of Shabnim Ismail (up four places to seventh) and Marizanne Kappe (up seven places to 22nd) are other notable gainers. For Sri Lanka, Shashikala Siriwardene has benefited by four places to reach 30th position.

Other players to advance include Esha Oza of the United Arab Emirates (up 44 places to 46th) among batters and the Thailand pair of Chanida Sutthiruang (up 15 places to 38th) and Nattaya Boochatham (40th) among bowlers.

India retain 5th spot despite 3-0 defeat to New Zealand

In the Women's T20I Team Rankings, New Zealand have overtaken England to take second place. ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2018 champions Australia continue to lead the table while the Windies and India, semifinalists at the T20 World Cup in the Caribbean, are fourth and fifth, respectively.

England captain Root was heard telling Gabriel ‘there’s nothing wrong with being gay’.

His comments were picked up by stump microphones but Gabriel’s original comments were inaudible but the umpires had a word with him soon after.

BBC’s Test Match Special tweeted: “We understand that West Indies bowler Shannon Gabriel was given an on-field warning about his language by umpires following an incident with Joe Root.”

Root refused to discuss the issue when speaking after the day’s play.

"It's test cricket and (Shannon) is an emotional guy trying to do everything he can to win a test match. Sometimes people say things on the field that they might regret," Root said.

"I don't want anything said in the middle to ruin what's been a good test series for him and his team.

"He's a good guy who plays hard cricket and is proud to be in the position he is. The battle was a good contest."

West Indies' coach Richard Pybus said he was not aware of what transpired but promised to address the issue if anything "untoward" was said.

At the end of day three, England were 325-4 in the second innings, with a commanding lead of 448 runs with Root and Ben Stokes at the crease.

West Indies lead the three-test series 2-0 after victories in Bridgetown and Antigua.

Workload management of the stars will be the burning issue when the selectors meet in Mumbai on Friday to pick the squad for the limited-overs series against Australia. The Indian team is set to play two T20Is and five ODIs against the Aussies in what is set to be the last set of international games that the boys get before going into the 2019 World Cup in England, starting May 30. The only practice they will get after this is in the Indian Premier League.

Sources in the know of developments told Hindustan Times that the selectors — led by chief MSK Prasad — will look at keeping the right balance as they would not only wish to give the senior guys ample rest going into the showpiece event, but also wouldn’t want to give the Australians the upper-hand in what will be the last series before the World Cup.

“Workload management of the senior players will definitely be the main area of discussion as we all know that the Indians have been on the road and the selectors and team management have made a conscious effort to ensure that the players get ample rest between games and series. Like you saw, regular skipper Virat Kohli was rested for the back end of the New Zealand series. You might see a Rohit Sharma rested for some games here.

“But it is also important to note that the Indians would want to keep the foot on the pedal and ensure that they don’t give the Australians any momentum going into the World Cup. A good series against India would mean a confidence booster for the team. So, there has to be a balance so that the composition of the team is not affected,” he explained.

While Rishabh Pant is almost certain to get more game time, it will be interesting to see if someone like Ajinkya Rahane gets one last go to seal a place in the World Cup squad. In the bowling department too, Jasprit Bumrah is almost certain to make a comeback after a well-earned rest during the New Zealand series.

In fact, head coach Ravi Shastri has already made it clear that players will be monitored even during the IPL.

“We’ve been in touch with the BCCI and CoA in this regard. We have certain plans in place and we’ll be looking to follow them. Usually, the two months of IPL are seen as relatively free months for me and I can just sit down and enjoy the cricket, watch out for new, young talents that keep emerging. But this IPL will be about monitoring the players, keeping the World Cup in mind,” he said in a recent interview.

Joe Root scored a century as England manhandled a depleted West Indies attack to lead the dead rubber third test by 448 runs after three days on Monday.

England, 123 runs up on the first innings, cruised from 19 without loss at the start of the day to 325-4 at stumps.

Root was 111 not out, reaching his first half-century and century in eight innings, with the West Indies already having won the series 2-0.

Beside Root was Ben Stokes, on 29 not out.

Joe Denly added 69 for his first test fifty, and Jos Buttler 56.

They were hardly threatened on a flattening pitch against an attack with lost allrounder Keemo Paul during the fourth over of the day. Paul, playing in place of suspended captain Jason Holder, was chasing a Denly cover drive to the boundary when he pulled up lame. He strained his right quadricep and had to be taken away on a stretcher. This was while Darren Bravo was not fielding because of a finger injury.

Paul’s absence was all the more obvious because he took a wicket with the first delivery of the day, a loosener which opener Rory Burns clipped straight to square leg.

Alzarri Joseph took the catch, and also dismissed the other opener, Keaton Jennings, who took a deflection off his thigh pad on to his leg stump while on 23 off 99 balls.

Root joined Denly and they led England through lunch at 108-2 until Denly, dropped on 12, was out also on his 99th ball. He hit 11 boundaries then nicked behind.

Root and Buttler took tea at 207-3.

Buttler survived given out caught behind off Roston Chase, on video review. But as soon as the West Indies took the new ball, Buttler lost his off stump to Kemar Roach.

Buttler made 56 from 115 balls in a stand of 107 with Root.

Root’s first fifty came from 120 balls, and his confidence showed as the second fifty needed only 69 more balls. He brought up his 16th test century by hitting Joseph back down the ground.

The century was bittersweet, however, because Root made 4, 22, 7 and 7 in the two previous tests in which England was thrashed, and 15 in the first innings.

It’s up to him to decide how much time England wants to give itself over the next two days to bowl out a patched-up West Indies and earn a consolation win.

An authoritative unbeaten half-century from Mayank Agarwal put Rest of India in control in the first session of the first day of the Irani Cup against Ranji Trophy champions Vidarbha in Nagpur. His fourth 50-plus score in eight innings oozed confidence, as together with No. 3 Hanuma Vihari, RoI reached 142 for 1 by lunch.

The day started with RoI captain Ajinkya Rahane choosing to bat at the toss. In bright conditions, with a few fans scattered in the stands, Rajneesh Gurbani kickstarted proceedings with the new ball. But Agarwal seemed to find his timing right from the first delivery. Two cracking drives in the first over set the tone for the session, and they scored at a rate of over five for the first hour. Agarwal's dominance of the off-side was remarkable, as he latched on to any width that the Vidarbha bowlers offered. An inside-out six over long-off to get to 49 was reminiscent of Agarwal's battle with Nathan Lyon during his debut Test on Boxing Day, and a soft push to cover brought up a half-century on his 50th first-class appearance.

Vihari came to the crease in the ninth over, after Anmolpreet Singh was bowled by an inswinger from Gurbani for 15. And he survived a close call in only his second delivery, as Yash Thakur - in for the injured Umesh Yadav - got a delivery to move slightly away after landing on a length, and sneaking just past Vihari's outside edge. A big appeal was turned down, and Vihari went on to make 36 runs in an unbroken partnership of 96 with Agarwal.

Vihari was less aggressive but found the boundary whenever he went searching for one. His two cover drives off left-arm spinner Aditya Sarwate early on kept RoI on track. Sarwate, however, did find the outside of Vihari's bat in the 28th over, and Faiz Fazal appeared to hold on at slip. Vihari stayed put, while the umpires conferred, went to the third umpire, and the replays showed that the catch was not clean. Vihari survived, and pulled Sarwate's next delivery for four to hurt Vidarbha more.

Vidarbha were left frustrated even more towards the session's end. Agarwal's attempted cover drive in the 32nd over off Akshay Karnewar flew off his outside edge, but wicketkeeper Akshay Wadkar could not hold on. Between the Vihari miss and the Agarwal drop, the two smoked 31 runs in 26 balls.

Apart from Umesh, Vidarbha are also without the talismanic Wasim Jaffer, for reasons unannounced. Atharva Taide - more than two decades younger than Jaffer - was named his replacement. For RoI, Rinku Singh, Sandeep Warrier, Ronit More and Snell Patel were the four men not named in the XI.

Recently, he became the first India cricketer to play 300 T20 matches when he took the field against New Zealand in Hamilton for the final match of the series.

Dhoni joined the likes of Chris Gayle, Shoaib Malik and Dwayne Bravo in an elite list of players with over 300 T20 appearances to their name. The list is topped by West Indies all-rounder Kieran Pollard with 446 appearances.

The veteran has the chance to add another record to his name as he is just three matches away from becoming the wicket-keeper to play the most number of games in any format of cricket.

Earlier, Dhoni became the joint-third in the list of cricketers with most number of ODIs under his belt for India.

The list is presently being led by Sachin Tendulkar (463), with Rahul Dravid (340) right behind at second. Mohammad Azharuddin is the joint-third as Dhoni has played 334 ODIs for India and 3 ODIs for Asia XI.
