Both boys have really suffered: Mohammed Azharuddin on KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya
Former Indian skipper Mohammed Azharuddin has spoken in favor of Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul after the BCCI on Thursday decided to lift the bans on both of them. While Pandya has been recalled into the Indian side for the ongoing series against New Zealand, Rahul will play for India A against England Lions.
Speaking to India Today on this issue, the former Indian skipper said that the Committee of Administrators (CoA) should have taken a decision themselves instead of appealing to the Supreme Court and waiting for an ombudsman for the final decision. He further said that both the players have suffered enough.
"COA should have appointed the ombudsman in the first place. There was no need to go to the Supreme Court. I don't think COA has done a very good job. Good for the team (that Pandya is likely to join India in New Zealand) - both boys have really suffered. They have unconditionally apologised. They (COA) should have taken the decision immediately. Hope the players do not do such things again," Azharuddin told.
The former Indian skipper further said that it will be really interesting to see as to how both of them perform after their comeback and handle the pressure as well. Pandya can be the potential replacement for Virat Kohli who will be rested in the last three ODIs against the Kiwis.
Both Rahul and Pandya received a lot of flak from the Indian cricket fans for their sexist comment on Koffee with Karan. The host of the show Karan himself also gave a statement. "I would be lying if I say I didn’t feel uncomfortable and I know that’s unfortunate thing for me to say because there were some uncomfortable things which were said" Karan clarified.
Pandya will make a return to the Indian team after the 2018 Asia Cup where he played a key role in India's title win.
