MHADA has decided to impose a fine of Rs 53.65 crore on MIG Cricket Club, located near Kala Nagar at Bandra East for violating conditions of the agreement under which the land was leased out to the club.

The above decision was taken by MHADA in its meeting held on Thursday, MHADA President Uday Samant said, adding that the school had not constructed the school building of Abhinav Madhyamik Vidayalaya of the Navjivan Shikshan Sanstha, as per the agreed terms.

As per the lease agreement entered into 2004, the club was to construct a school building free of cost on a plot admeasuring 3,560 square meters and hand it over to MHADA, which in turn would have given it an organisation to run it.

The club authorities demolished the existing school and set up a sprawling ground and also constructed a posh club. In the intervening period the school was shifted to nearby BMC school running in a 'patra' (tin) shed and the BMC school was shifted to MHADA colony.

As of today Abhinav Madhyamik Vidyalaya is in a wretched condition. Now either the club should construct the school or give the cost to the MHADA so that it can construct the school.

MIG Club Chairman, Sanjeev Patki, said that the club was yet to receive any communication from MHADA about this. The club had began construction of school building, but it was stopped due to some technical reasons.

The MIG Cricket Club dates back to 1968 when a group of local sports enthusiasts overcame the difficulties of infrastructure and resources to set up the club.

In 1992, the Club acquired a proper cricketing playground of almost 14,000 sq. mt. The Club, became one of the top few cricketing destinations in the city and attracts a lot of young talent. Its services include fitness, recreation, food and the love for sport. Today it is counted amongst the top few cricketing destinations in the city and attracts a lot of young talent. Some of the reputed names in sports arena are associated with it.

Meanwhile, the Navjivan Education trust had requested the Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and MHADA to hand over the land for the school.
